Rector: The Rev. Janice Melbourne Chalaron, ext. 4;
As a priest in the Episcopal Church, I have always understood myself to be a pilgrim on a pilgrimage of faith. This probably grows out of my history of being the daughter of a Foreign Service Officer and having lived overseas in places like Helsinki, Finland and Baghdad, Iraq. I have degrees from UNC-Chapel Hill, Duke University and the University of the South at Sewanee. (I come from a long line of academics!) Since my ordination in 1990, I’ve been called to serve congregations in the Dioceses of North Carolina and Atlanta. Coming to Our Saviour in Rock Hill has felt like a faithful continuation of my vocation as a clergy person and my own spiritual journey. I feel very honored to have been called as the Rector and to be doing ministry with such creative and hard- working staff members and lay leaders. Having been here almost 3 years, I can say with conviction that I believe our Parish is a fabulous place for people who are seeking to know God and who are longing for a deeper connection to Christ.
My dearest companion on pilgrimage is my husband, Pierre. Together, we have walked the Camino Santiago de Compostela in northern Spain, the Pyrenees in France, and we actually have been walking and talking with one another for over 30 years. We have 3 wonderful, grown-up children; 4 beautiful grandchildren and 1 lazy, bad-tempered cat. You will generally find Pierre outside the house working in the garden or leaning over the back fence trading vegetables and flowers and stories with our neighbors. On most Sunday afternoons you will find me at lunch with newcomers or out visiting parishioners in the local hospitals. And, by Sunday evening, I’m ready to enjoy another installment of… Downton Abbey!
I hope that you will join me and the congregation of the Episcopal Church of Our Saviour on our pilgrimage with Christ.
